On the Road Again

Ontario - here we come!

As we sit in our warm and cosy Winnibago in Dryden, Ontario both Dean and I feel absolutely shattered. Crossing Canada in winter! What were we thinking! Well it isn't all that bad just as long as we stick to our approach of...... slow and steady is the name of this game.

After clearing the driveway at dear Debs house, where our motorhome was stowed, starting her up and warming her up, stocking up on groceries, water, fuel and propane we were just about ready to leave Winnipeg.  A nagging oil leak played on our minds so we decided to get it looked at. After calling around  numerous auto-shops, we were finally directed towards - Len (Selby Truck Service Ltd). What a nice bloke who had the facilities to work on our rather cumbersome home. In the comforts of a workshop, while Len and Paul worked on the oil leak, Dean was able to tighten the fan belt and I was able to clear the snow from the roof and wrap Arnie in a tarp and place him in his penthouse loft.  If you are ever in Winnipeg and need a friendly, honest, good mechanic, call Len and you won't be disappointed.

We finally made our way to the Trans Canada Highway eager to be on the road to begin our drive to Ontario.

Although it was slow going as snow flurries drifted across the road hypmotizing the driver and wind gusts that shoved our mighty rig towards the shoulder, the one thing we have on our side is time.

We need to be in Niagara by the 14th of December for a presentation date with the Niagara Falls Nature Club.  Along the way we hope to stop and visit Deans long-time friend of 38 years in Killarney before arriving at his parents home in Niagara.

The plan is to drive only by day, pulling in somewhere for the night. Fussy we are not when it comes to a place to park and lay our weary heads on a pillow. Carparks with outside plug-ins are ideal as we just purchased an industrial wee heater, to help warm our home along with the propane furnace.

Tension is definitely in the air, particularly for Dean who has memories of being bent over a hot engine, trying to troubleshoot all the mishaps that occurred during our BC to Manitoba trek.  However this time, freezing fingers and knee deep in snow is what Dean may have to face if things go belly-up as we drive across Ontario in winter.

With Arnie strapped once again to the roof of Winnie, and Dean and I thankful to be reunited with our home, we cautiously and eagerly take to the road, looking foward to the time when we are safely parked in the driveway of his parents - Win and Kals house in Queenston.

For those that are interested in presentations, please email me at oceanmaidventures@yahoo.ca to make arrangements. Thank You and All the Best.   D and H
